In 2010, Volkswagen presents the world’s most eco-friendly one-make cup. At the season opener at Hockenheim on April 23 and 24, 2010 Volkswagen rings in a new manufacturer’s cup era. The key words: "eco-conscious, economical, sporty” embody numerous innovative and largely new concepts which have never before existed in a racing series featuring identical racing cars.
Volkswagen thus assumes a pioneering role yet again among the worldwide one-make cups with the Scirocco R-Cup. 80 per cent less CO2 emissions thanks to bio-CNG (compressed natural gas) power on the one hand and the inclusion of the Volkswagen distribution partners as well as a new sporting focus on the other will celebrate a world debut in the 2010 season.
"Volkswagen has always stood for pioneering innovations in its 43-year one-make cup tradition,” says Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen. "The Scirocco R-Cup continues this tradition with a concept which is unique in the world. In it, Volkswagen realises an eco-conscious power-train by using bio-CNG as well as new ideas for the sporting format. We can proudly refer not only to ‘The Car’ but in future also to ‘The Cup.’.”
